Medb peeing in Louis le Brocquy’s illustrations for the Táin. I love this, there is the frank Matisse-like monumentity of Medb’s back, the earthiness and then the dynamic quality imparted by the gaps and disjunctures of her wood-cut body, a movement and energy emphasized by the pee drops pictured mid-fall. It is impossible now to imagine the Táin without his illustrations with their regal bull, mystical crow, warped warrior and massed army. RIP.
